Stephen Hawking and The Roses
Armfuls of “Peace”… sometimes I think roses are the most glorious artworks of all. These were photographed a week ago at Tesselear’s bulb farm in Victoria while I was working on one of my latest tracks at Barb and Adie Hannan’s The Songstore, just around the corner on their own beautiful rose-filled property not far from the Yarra Valley. My head was absolutely full of wonderful music in the making and to say I was happy was an understatement.
I’ve been thinking a great deal about art, excellence and beauty over this last week, especially since the death of cosmologist Stephen Hawking on Wednesday. For me, he was all about the highest possible forms of human thinking – the quest for the genius of truth in all things. I wrote a cheeky love song inspired by him a few years ago – Stephen Hawking Wants You To. It’s my own whimsical take on the eternal nature of true love’s kiss travelling forever into the universe like the light of a star – if only we could get far enough away to really see it and take in the bigger cosmic picture.
I always loved this song – singing it live has to be one of my greatest artistic joys – but I also knew the recording needed just a little more love and attention. In honour of the man himself, I’m releasing a remixed and remastered version of Stephen Hawking Wants You To with a new vocal – and a video!! – which will be out in the next couple of days. So please like and share as soon as you see it 🙂 Like any artist, I’ve given it my all. But I can’t help thinking that Stephen Hawking would have wanted me to lol. The best art sometimes takes its own time to flower – even over the space of years – and especially in the arms of one small indie artist trying to find her own creative voice in the world.
Vale Stephen Hawking. Your light will shine on for as long as there are human beings to look to the stars and scientists and artists to interpret them.
